Peat buckets were a standard item found in Georgian grand houses particularly in Ireland. They held peat or other fuel and sat by the fire. Usually made in mahogany with brass bands and coopered in construction. Plate buckets were similar items but with a vertical slot to allow the plates to be easily removed. Genuine 18th century peat buckets are hard to find and command high prices. Today they still provide a functional and beautiful item of furniture.
